Dance & Creative Movement Workshops

Four Primary students demonstrate their favorite angular low-level shapes.

Janice’s teaching methodology is a vibrant blend of technical acquisition, creative exploration, musicality and dramatic expression designed to support the individual’s artistic journey of discovery and growth.

“In our fast-paced world we are always moving, but most of the time we do so without awareness of our bodies or the space around us. This program allowed the children to stop and pay attention to the movement they have in their bodies and to harness these movements to create art to share with others. It was an experience they will remember.” Elementary School Teacher

“Greatly exceeded my expectations! In addition to meeting the learning outcomes of the dance curriculum the program integrated beautifully with our science focus on habitat, our math unit on geometry and the work we’ve done in the area of environmental art.” Elementary School Teacher

An Intermediate level student performs a stylized arabesque inspired by the crescent moon.

“Janice’s methodologies are non-threatening and easily understood. She strengthens students’ self-confidence, team-work, language, arts literacy and critical thinking skills.” Middle School Teacher

“Students related the dance work to their studies on ‘Equal access to water’. The project had excellent emphasis on the Creative Process and Critical Thinking and the students learned that dance can communicate their ideas about powerful issues.” Middle School Teacher

“Never have I seen such excitement and enthusiasm generated amongst my students over a school-related activity…Not only did this workshop do wonders for their actual dancing skills, but the rapid growth in self-confidence, cooperation, motivation, and shared dialogue I witnessed was marvelous!” Secondary School Teacher

Workshops and residencies are available for elementary, middle and secondary schools, mixed abilities programs, community-based engagement, post-secondary training programs, and professional development for classroom and specialist teachers.

Every workshop is planned with input from educators and community partners to ensure participants’ needs and expectations are met.
